Solar Neutrino Physics at LNGS (Poster)

From today it is possible to register for the international symposium Solar Neutrino Physics at LNGS: Borexino and Gallex experiments” scheduled for next September 12th at the headquarter of the “Accademia dei Lincei” in Rome.

The event, jointly organized by the Accademia dei Lincei and the Gran Sasso National Laboratory (LNGS) of INFN, aims to retrace the salient moments of solar neutrino research at the Gran Sasso National Laboratory, historically represented by the two great experiments Gallex and Borexino.
A research that has characterized the Laboratory’s activity since its establishment.

The study of solar neutrinos is a fruitful interdisciplinary research topic that had a tremendous impact on both neutrino and astroparticle physics. It led to some of the most significant recent breakthroughs in those fields and greatly improved our understanding of the nuclear reactions that power the Sun and the other stars.

The event will be opened by Giorgio Parisi for the “Accademia dei Lincei” and Antonio Zoccoli for the INFN and will see the participation of Luciano Maiani, as leading actor of the dawning of the Laboratory and former President of INFN, Gianpaolo Bellini (Borexino) and Till Kirsten (Gallex), the two scientists which have founded and led the two experiments, Alexei Smirnov and Wick Haxton, two of the major reference theoretical physicists of the field.  The event will be closed by Lucia Votano, Director of the Gran Sasso National Laboratory in the triennium 2009-2012.
